Andrade's tenure with WWE has ended unexpectedly amid escalating tensions backstage. The former United States Champion, who was anticipated to compete for a significant tag team title alongside Rey Fenix at Clash in Paris, has been quietly removed from the active roster. His recent absence from SmackDown episodes and missed appearances during WWE's European Tour hinted at underlying issues.
Sources reveal that Andrade severed communication with WWE, skipping both live events and creative discussions. This abrupt withdrawal disrupted planned storylines, including the anticipated tag title match, leaving WWE management in a state of disarray.
Creative dissatisfaction seems to be a key factor in this situation. Andrade had previously expressed his discontent regarding his booking, and reports suggest he opted out of ongoing storyline negotiations, feeling they lacked direction. This was not a formal resignation but rather a withdrawal from participation, placing the onus on WWE to respond.
During his latest stint, Andrade faced at least one wellness policy violation, resulting in a suspension without pay. He was also removed from a show last month in connection with this suspension. (via @JonAlba / @SI_wrestling)
Additionally, at least one violation of the WWE Wellness Policy has been reported. While it is uncertain if this directly led to his release, it certainly strained the already tenuous relationship between Andrade and the organization. WWE has yet to release an official statement, and Andrade has not made any public comments.
The initial signs of his departure became evident when his profile was moved to WWE's 'Archive' section online. Shortly thereafter, Sports Illustrated's Jon Alba confirmed that the exit was disciplinary rather than mutual. Notably, Andrade was sent home from a SmackDown taping just weeks prior to the final decision.
Speculation has also arisen regarding personal changes, including his divorce from Charlotte Flair last year, which may have impacted his situation with WWE. Although no direct correlation has been established, it marked a significant shift in his off-screen connections with the company.
With AAA now under WWE's ownership, TNA as a partner, and bridges with AEW/ROH seemingly burned, Andrade's immediate options in North America appear limited. However, opportunities abroad remain promising. A potential return to CMLL, while uncertain, could elevate him as a top star, and a stint in Japan might not only rejuvenate his career but also bring new energy to that wrestling landscape.
